Oh, all these Sonlight books ...

So we are a couple of month into our first year of homeschooling, and one of the things I must say about the Sonlight curriculum is: SO MANY BOOKS!

It is hard to keep up, and if your child doesn't like to read, it might not be the thing for you.
That said, so far we found the books to be really good ones! We choose the Eastern Hemisphere set for Lenah's fifth grade History and like it a lot.

So much so, that Lenah decided to start writing reviews about them! That way, when other moms are looking for good books and don't have the time to pre-read, they can just come here.

What a clever idea! I love it, and that's why we will share with you from now on. We pre-read a lot of the  books that our kids read, and as they get into the teen years we find it important to have a little know about whats in the book they read.

When Lenah was in public school, that became super hard to do. Too many books, too little time and mostly very little influence on what is offered at school. So, I do understand! Life is busy!

But since we have to read them together for part of our school anyways ... we'll share, so you don't have to read them first.

Mission to Cathay

By Madeleine Polland

"A wonderful story in which two Jesuits from Italy start their mission in inner China. In Macau, they pick up a boy who is willing to serve them. The boy has no name, no home, and no family. Later, they receive a letter inviting them into inner China. In inner China, the boy makes friends with a girl dressed up as a boy. Little does the boy know that the girl, Jade, belongs to the house of the governor Wang Pan. In the end the family of Wang Pan has a new member, but I won't tell who.
I think this is a great, exciting, must-read book, with absolutely no bad words."
